Why Bail Out Companies that are Ruining our Planet?

Gas prices are higher than ever right now, and all of our wallets are hurting. The truth is that we are running out of the resources we need to continue running our automobiles on gasoline. Instead of thinking of a new way to run our cars, people just want to destructively drill into our planet only to face this issue again eventually. What will we do then? Any one who has reached the age of reason can see that we cannot resort back to a source that is running out and destroying our planet. America has the technology to use alternative forms of energy to get us from here to there. My question is why our government would help a company that is so detrimental to our planet. People are (or should be) the main priority of our government leaders, and if people are the main priority- then they should be keeping the health of the earth in mind. Without a healthy planet, humans will not be able to survive.
So instead of the government just giving these auto companies money, I feel that they should only receive the money upon an agreement to clean up their acts (literally).
