The Rise of Hitler

I found a World War II podcast that talks about how Hitler came to power in Germany. There were many events that led to his eventual reign. It  taught me a lot that I did not know and gave me a better understanding on how someone like him came to power.

Hitler and his party changed strategy three times before they eventually won. First, the revolutionary strategy, meaning they wanted to create a national revolution but it was a failure. Hitler was sent to prison and tried for treason. He was later released. Second, the parliamentary phase, this was only successful when Germany was in a depression but during the good times they lost support. Third, complete nazification, meaning that once the depression was bad enough the people turned to voting for radical ideas because they were desperate. Hitler and his party was prepared and able to take over within 18 months.

Hitler was successful in using that which he wanted to destroy, democracy. He was able to win through elections and getting the votes of the people. He was very persuasive and knew how to speak to the people. All these factors led to the eventual reign of Hitler. The people never knew what hit them and this led to the many bad things that he did during his dictatorship.

It was a good informative podcast that helped me understand a little more on how a bad man like Hitler could get into power and cause the killing of millions of people.
