St. Valentine Massacre

I chose the show History Detectives because it seemed to resemble the work that we are doing for our projects. The episode I watched began with a story of the St. Valentine Massacre in 1929 where 7 men were shot in Chicago and was possibly connected to Al Capone. No one was ever convicted of this crime. The show follows a lead on a gun that may have been used to kill men in the shooting. Right off the bat this show is extremely cheesy but it does seem that the people on the show are experts in their topics. Elise Luray travels around the Chicago area and into Michigan speaking with historians and police force that have information on the gun. Although they can not say that the gun was  used in the massacre they can say that it was an exact fit to what has been described. I think that the show does highlight how research is done but it does it in a way that really idealizes historical research. Luray does go to archives and searches through records at different locations but it doesn't show the behind the scenes work as much as the really neat discoveries that probably took a lot of time to find.
