I watched a show on History Channel that talked about the things you may not know about Abraham Lincoln. There were quite a few things that were discussed that I did not know about Abraham Lincoln:
1) He felt like he was enslaved as a
child because his father made him leave school to go work for him.
2) He got in fights more than any
other president other than Andrew Jackson
3) He was not always a devout Christian and he never actually joined a church
4) Lincoln was an inventor (Techno
Geek) and was the only President to get a patent.
5) Lincoln was a hands on commander
and chief and he test fired weapon from the White House lawn.
6) Held views that would be
considered racist, he said blacks and whites should be separate and he wanted to
ship them all to an island.
7) Had trouble with women and had trouble with his wife.
8) He slept with men because he felt more comfortable with them.
9) His best friend was slave owner
10) Lincoln's hat took a bullet for
him
11) Created secret service the day
before his assassination
12) Lincoln photographed with his killer
Those are some of the things that were discussed in the show. I thought it was pretty interesting. The historians arguments were convincing and he showed some proof by quoting what people said. Its strengths were that it gave a lot of examples to back up what was being said. They showed pictures and quotes that made it sound legitimate. The way it was organized kept you focused and caught your attention. It was mostly the guy talking giving facts.
I felt that it had a lot of weaknesses though and I do not know if I believe all that was being said. The sources he quoted from were just different people and I would need to look into it more to verify. I just do not know if I can trust what he was claiming until i see the documents and see how legitimate they really are. It was mostly the historian talking the whole time and not many other historians or teachers that would help with his claims.
The historian is named David Eisenbach, he is also an author. He has great credentials and it seems like I could trust him. The show was interesting and something that would be a good reference to look into to find interesting facts. I could use it to look up more information on a given subject.
