Last week I had written a post about an Environmental History thread and I decided this week I would focus on another one of my interests. I went to the Women's History discussion board and I was so pleased to see how much more input there had been to this board. I had so many links to choose from but I decided that the most interesting link I came across was Vera Mackie's post asking where the Women's Liberation Symbol derived from. This symbol, the female sign with a fist in the circular portion, became popular in the 1970's and Mackie wanted to know where it had gotten it's start. Cheryl Thruber offered a response saying that the symbol had been created by Robin Morgan in 1969 at the second Miss America Pageant demonstration. She goes on to describe where the symbol came from and what it means based on the combined symbolism and colors used. The other women who contribute all help to confirm that story and add more to the history of the symbol.

I was extremely please to see that so many women were contributing to the discussion and having conversations about women's history. It is often joked about that history is the study of males and it is a relief to see women (and men) researching the female history that also occurred. I also wonder why the Women's History feed is so much more active than the environmental feed I looked at last week.
